Snail Speed

A large, meticulously detailed snail occupies the lower right, its shell mapped in high-contrast black and white against warm wood grain, as if the creature has paused mid-crossing. Two smaller snails pick their way along raised woven paths that connect circular platforms, turning the surface into a quiet, almost ceremonial landscape.

The interior is a patchwork of rectangular wood panels in sunset and dusk tones—dusty rose, violet, amber, coral, and pale gold—some carrying faint geometric patterns, others holding slivers of sky or distant red-rock forms. A soft rainbow wash cuts horizontally through the center. The thick, wavy-edged frame is not a border but part of the work itself: its carved undulations echo the snails’ slow movement and hold the whole composition together.

The piece feels both grounded and slightly otherworldly—a map of patience, a desert afternoon stretched into wood, where everything moves at the only pace that matters.
